Protech SBR Acid Washed Blade, Vintage Flag Aluminum Handle
"I've never truly liked out-the-side autos. Until now anyways."
I'll never forget the first time I opened a Protech Auto. It was a blue Runt J4, and it sprung right out of my hand. This was the first Protech knife we ordered into the store, about a year before KnifeHub.com was created. At the time, we were simply a brick & mortar gun store and were looking to add more knives to our inventory. I had heard that Protech Knives had a reputation for quality so I went ahead and ordered a few. Fast forward about a year and a half later and we are now a direct Protech dealer, and are getting ready to launch Protech as an option on KnifeHub.
Admittedly, I've never truly liked out-the-side autos. Until now anyways. This SBR was a gift from Dave Wattenberg himself of Protech Knives. This is my first push-button out-the-side (lets call it OTS) auto knife. Before now, I honestly was not a fan. When I first saw this knife, however, I liked the design so much that I didn’t care. The acid washed blade, paired with the “distressed” look of the vintage flag handle just really caught my eye. The ergonomics felt great in my hand, and the blade length was plenty for any of my needs. I figured I'd give it a shot, and now a few weeks later, I'm glad I did. The OTS knife is definitely something you can get used to, and there is something satisfying about the way Protech Knives SLAM open. I've become a fan, and I'm sure I'll keep this one in my pocket for a while.
Distressed flag not for you? There is a black aluminum handled version with stonewashed blade available here.
