At the 2022 BLADE Show in Atlanta, Spyderco unveiled the second-generation Military 2, a design collaboration between company co-founder Sal Glesser and his son Eric. This updated model incorporates features from the popular Paramilitary 2 along with subtle ergonomic refinements. The Military 2 received a tremendous reception, earning BLADE magazine's prestigious American-Made Knife of the Year award.
 
Instead of the original LinerLock, the Military 2 uses Spyderco's Compression Lock mechanism. This lock is located on the spine of the handle, providing greater strength and reducing the chance of accidental release during hard use. It also allows the blade to be safely closed with one hand without fingers crossing the path of the edge. The knife features a precision-machined bushing to ensure exact alignment and tensioning of the blade.
 
The Military 2's stainless steel liners are nested within peel-ply-textured G10 scales, keeping the knife slim and pocket-friendly. These liners are larger than those in the original design, skeletonized to reduce weight and teamed with stainless steel standoffs for an open-backed construction style. These features reduce the knife's weight by 0.2 ounces (6g) and enhance balance. The larger liners also increase structural strength and support a four-position pocket clip, allowing for left or right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry.
 
Ergonomically, the Military 2 has a slightly larger 50/50 index-finger choil for improved control in a forward grip. The handle's forward and rear portions have been narrowed for enhanced comfort.
 
The Military 2 features a full-flat-ground blade made from CPM-S30V stainless steel, a long-time standard known for its consistent performance. Spyderco has perfected the heat treating of this steel, ensuring its performance meets or exceeds expectations. Over time, the Military 2 will likely be available in other blade steels, but CPM-S30V is the standard for its initial release.
 
The Military 2 is a proud successor to a legendary design and will serve alongside its predecessor in Spyderco's product line. Like the original, it is expected to be a canvas for a variety of variations, Sprint Runs, and Exclusives, showcasing different blade steels, handle materials, and other features.
