Welcome to Knifehub.com! Unveiled in 1997, the Spyderco Native revolutionized affordable, lightweight folding knives with its USA craftsmanship and the innovative reversible "barrel-bolt" pocket clip. As the Native gained a devoted following, demand grew for an extended version catering to larger hands.
Responding to this call, Spyderco introduced the Native Chief prototype in 1999. With a design that maintained the Native's pocket-friendly width but extended its overall length, Spyderco gathered feedback through trade shows and customer interactions. Despite positive responses, the project faced challenges associated with longer blades and was put on hold for several years.
The turning point came with the development of the Native 5, Spyderco's fifth-generation evolution, featuring a refined lockback mechanism. This advancement paved the way for the resurrection of the Native Chief, blending timeless design with modern innovations.
The Native Chief Lightweight, an extended version of the iconic Spyderco Native, boasts a 21% weight reduction compared to its predecessor. Featuring a fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) handle with high-traction Bi-Directional Texturing, this model preserves the precision-machined lockback mechanism. The full-flat ground CTS-BD1N stainless steel blade with a Trademark Round Hole ensures optimal performance.
